WebOct 31, 2013 · Turns out it was the primer pump, apparantly the motor still worked, but the pump part had stopped working. Ended up pulling the line off the primer pump inlet and running a hose into a bucket with fuel. Turned the key on and started the pump. There are ceramic parts in the pump and they get broken. the whole fuel system must be repaired after that. Expensive ! About $12-14K !

I had the same problem with the Cummins ISX 485. They changed a sensor and it was OK after that. I hope this is the same thing, Just a sensor. Some kind of factory defect. It is annoying as all hell.
