In Dragon Ball (or specifically, after Raditz), skill, fighting styles, and technique can all be, and are, overpowered through sheer strength. It doesn't matter if Goku was colossally more skilled. Broly was stronger so he won those fights.
WebOld Broly I thin get's too much hate, and people who say he hates Goku because he cried as a baby just missed the point IMO. Goku's crying was a flashback to Broly being stabbed as a child, pretty traumatic experience and I think the circle jerk for saying "hud dur crying baby" has removed the ability to actually look at Broly as a character.
